But do you know what you are actually pouring into your body in the name of temporary refreshment or energy? If you knew this, you too would stop consuming Cold drinks & energy drinks.

Today, we will do a deep analysis of these two types of beverages based on data and science.

Part 1: Is There Any Cold Drink That Is Good for Your Health?

The direct answer is—No. Regular carbonated cold drinks sold in the market (such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Campa) are not beneficial for your health in the slightest. Let’s understand this with data:

A Mountain of Sugar: A 330 ml can of Coca-Cola contains about 39 grams of sugar (nearly 10 teaspoons). According to the American Heart Association (AHA), an adult should not consume more than 25-36 grams of sugar a day. This means that drinking just one can of Coke exceeds your entire daily sugar quota!

The Deception of Diet or Zero Sugar: Many people think ‘Coke Zero’ or ‘Diet Coke’ is safe. But instead of sugar, an artificial sweetener called ‘Aspartame’ is used in them. The World Health Organization (WHO) recently listed Aspartame as a “possibly carcinogenic” substance.

Bone and Tooth Decay: These drinks contain phosphoric acid, which absorbs calcium. In the long run, this is a major cause of osteoporosis (bone loss) and the destruction of tooth enamel.

So, what is the alternative for a healthy fizz or a ‘Healthy Cold Drink’?

If you miss the bubbles or fizz of a cold drink, you can try Kombucha or Sparkling Water. Kombucha is fermented tea, which creates highly beneficial probiotics for the gut. And if you mix a little lemon and mint with sparkling water, it tastes just like Sprite or Limca, but causes no harm at all.

Part 2: Red Bull and the Massive Misconception of Boosting ‘Energy’

“Red Bull gives you wings”—this slogan is one of the best examples of neuromarketing and psychology. Advertisements showcase extreme sports and youth in such a way that our subconscious mind begins to believe that drinking it will bring magical energy to the body.

But the science and the scale of damage behind it are quite terrifying:

1. It’s Not Energy, It’s Actually a ‘Sugar and Caffeine Crash’

A 250 ml can of Red Bull contains about 80 mg of caffeine and 27 grams of sugar. When such a large amount of sugar and caffeine enters the bloodstream all at once, the brain suddenly releases a massive amount of dopamine. You feel very energized temporarily. But just an hour or an hour and a half later, when the insulin spike drops, you will feel more tired and exhausted than before. This is called a ‘Sugar Crash’.

2. Severe Pressure on the Heart and Blood Pressure

Besides caffeine, Red Bull contains an ingredient called Taurine. Studies have shown that consuming excessive energy drinks leads to irregular heartbeats (Arrhythmia) and increased blood pressure. For those who drink it before exercise or the gym, the risk of a heart attack multiplies.

3. Mental Anxiety and Sleep Disorders

Excessive caffeine makes our nervous system overactive. As a result, insomnia (inability to sleep), tremors in the hands and legs, and unprovoked anxiety or panic attacks can occur.

4. Kidney Damage

These drinks cause a large amount of water to be flushed out of the body (Diuretic effect). This leads to dehydration and increases the risk of kidney stones.

Cold Drinks & Energy Drinks: The Final Word

Marketing companies love to play with human psychology. They know exactly how to sell harmful chemical water as ‘refreshment’ or ‘energy’ through packaging and advertising. The harsh truth is that those who manufacture these products, and those who promote them, do not consume these drinks themselves.

In reality, your body does not need Red Bull for energy; it needs adequate sleep, proper nutrition, and hydration. If you feel too tired, try a cup of black coffee or coconut water—you will get much more sustainable energy than Red Bull, and your body will be saved.

A cold bottle of Coca-Cola on a hot summer day or a can of Red Bull when exhausted from work—this is a very familiar picture in our daily lives.
